Tonasket volleyball improves league standing

TONASKET – The Tonasket girls’ volleyball team won both their games last week while on the road.

The team first traveled down to Omak on Tuesday, Sept. 30. There, they won the match in three sets with scores of 25-15, 25-20 and 25-16. Junior Falisha Laurie was 13 for 14 serves with 18 assists, sophomore Jessica Rhoads served 10 for 10, junior April Webber served 15 for 15, senior Cierra Silverthorn had seven kills, and senior Amber Allen served eight of ten with four kills.

“It feels really good to win the matches we know we should win,” Nellie Kirk, head coach, said. “The girls controlled the match. We kept the ball in play and made the necessary shots.”

The Tigers next hit the road to Cashmere on Thursday, Oct. 2. It took five sets this time, but they once again came out with a win. Senior Jessica Kitterman served 31 for 31, Rhoads served 17 for 17, Silverthorn served 10 for 13 with 10 kills and Allen served 12 for 15 with 17 kills.

Kirk said the fifth set was a great finish to the match.

“After battling four games, the Tonasket girls came out the fifth game with confidence and put them away,” Kirk said. “Great serving by Jessica Kitterman to start the fifth game and Jessica Rhoads to finish the fifth game with six straight points.”

The Tigers, now 4-3 in league, play Brewster at home tonight at 7 p.m.
