LEAVENWORTH – The Tonasket girls basketball team finished a three game week against Cascade on Saturday, Jan. 17, winning all three games.

The first game, on Tuesday, Jan. 13, was at home against Lake Roosevelt. With a three-point shot from Cierra Silverthorn with 3.8 seconds left in the game, the Tigers won 61-60.

“I thought we played good for two and a half quarters but then we got sloppy and let them back into it,” Greg Moser, head coach, said. “The girls cleaned up though and executed to win at the last second.”

Silverthorn led the team in scoring with 25 points and in rebounds with 13. Seniors Dana Pryor and Jessica Kitterman each had 12 points while Pryor also had six assists. Senior Rachel Hutchins had nine rebounds.

“[Pryor] really stepped up and took care of it when [Silverthorn] got into foul trouble,” Moser said.

On Thursday, Jan. 15, the Tigers played at home in a make-up game against Kettle Falls, winning after two free throw shots from Kitterman with 4.8 seconds left in the game.

“We seemed to struggle the whole night and Kettle Falls shot well,” Moser said. “We were down by four at the end of the fourth but the girls pulled it together and kept fighting. Kitterman was fouled with 4.8 seconds and made both free shots and then they contained Kettle Falls to win.”

Silverthorn and Pryor led the team in scoring with 20 and 16 points respectively.

In the final game of the week, the Tigers traveled down to Cascade and won 52-48.

“Cascade is a very athletic team,” Moser said. “We were up by nine at the half and nine at the end of the third. They got within four points in the fourth quarter but we got the stops and held the lead.”

Silverthorn again led the team in scoring with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Pryor had 12 points and five steals and Kitterman had 11 points. Hutchins and Silverthorn both had three assists.

With the season half-way over, Moser said he feels the team is on a little bit of a rollercoaster with consistency, especially in the second half.

“We have people stepping up on both ends of the court though and other people scoring besides [Silverthorn] so that’ll make it harder for teams to defend against us.”

The Tigers, 5-1 in league, 10-2 overall, play against Brewster away tonight at 7 p.m.
