TONASKET – With only one game left in the season, the Tonasket boys’ basketball team is hoping to finish out strong.

On Tuesday, Feb. 2, the Tigers lost at home to Okanogan 78-44.

“We hung around in the first quarter but from then on out, Okanogan shot about 50 percent from the field,” Glenn Braman, head coach, said. “We were 16-56 from the field, they were 30-55. Many of their shots were close to the basket and they rebounded well. We settled for a lot of perimeter shots and they were not falling.”

Junior Colton Ayers led the Tigers in scoring with 18 points while senior Wade DeTillian had 13 points.

“I think we played pretty good,” DeTillian said. “We hustled our butts off and worked as hard as we could. We’re going to get a win this year, I’m pretty sure.”

On Saturday, Feb. 6, the Tigers lost at home to Cascade 86-62.

“We were 20-59, or 34 percent, and they were 32-69, 46 percent,” Braman said. “They not only got more shots but also shot a better percent. They also were able to control the rebounds and made good use of their offensive rebounds. We had a fair number of offensive rebounds, too, they just didn’t turn into lay-ins. The third quarter was the difference, even though we had one of our best quarters of the season, scoring 19, they trumped that with 32 points. This built a 20 point lead for Cascade going into the fourth and we were not able to make a run at them. Overall, the team played with as much energy as they have in some time.”

Sophomore John Stedtfeld led the team in scoring with 16 points while DeTillian and Ayers both had 14.

“I think the game went pretty good for the most part,” senior Terrell Cross said. “We played a really good first half. We have two more games left and I think we can win at least one of them.”

As of press time, the Tigers (0-12, 2-18) had not yet played at home against Omak on Tuesday, Feb. 9. Their last game is on Saturday, Feb. 13 in Cashmere at 7:30 p.m.
