Second-ranked Chelan holds off Tonasket wrestlers

CHELAN – Tonasket’s wrestling team had its chances during a Saturday Jan. 19 dual at Chelan to upset the second-ranked Goats.

The Tigers went nose to nose with the Caribou Trail League favorites for most of the night before Chelan won four of the final five matches to erase a 24-22 Tonasket lead and defeat the Tigers 43-30.

Tonasket was missing starters John Stedtfeld, Derek Rimestad and Chad Edwards. But four straight wins in the light weights, including a forfeit victory by Trevor Peterson (113 pounds), decisions by Collin Aitcheson (120) and Dyllan Walton (132) and a pin by Jorge Juarez (126) erased an early 22-6 deficit.

With the loss, the Tigers (3-1 in CTL duals) fall a game behind league-leading Chelan (4-0) and Quincy (4-0).
