NORTH COUNTY – Local football players Keegan McCormick and Chad Mathews were recently chosen as athletes of the week by the WIAA/Seattle Times.

McCormick, a senior for Tonasket High School, was chosen for his 308 yards on 47 carries against Cascade of Leavenworth on Friday, Oct. 8 when the Tigers won 30-18. In this game, McCormick scored four touchdowns as well as having three solo tackles and three assists as a linebacker.

Mathews, a junior for Oroville High School, was chosen based on the five first-half touchdowns he scored against Bridgeport in the Hornets’ 56-13 victory. Mathews had one rushing touchdown, three receiving touchdowns and one touchdown on a 62-yard interception return.

Each week, the WIAA/Seattle Times selects a male and female athlete of the week for each class throughout the state based on nominations by athletic directors.
