Chesaw father and son guilty of murder

Each man sentenced to more than 32 years in prison

OKANOGAN – A man and his son were found guilty in the premeditated murder of Michael R. Carrigan, Hoquium, Wash., who was hunting near their Pontiac Ridge home in September of 2013.

John Wayne Jennings, 59, Chesaw, was found guilty (jury trial) Nov. 23 of first-degree murder (premeditated) and delivery of a firearm to an ineligible person. Jennings was sentenced Nov. 24 to 393 months (32.75 years) in prison and fined $7,299.50 for the Sept. 3, 2013 crimes.

Ernesto Eduardo Mendez Leon, 21, Okanogan, pleaded guilty Nov. 10 to residential burglary, third-degree malicious mischief and third-degree theft. Mendez Leon was sentenced to 364 days in jail with 184 days suspended, and fined $1,110.50 for the May 28 crimes.

Tonasket man takes life after 11 hour standoff

Edward John Thomas, 52, of Tonasket is dead after a self-inflicted gunshot wound that ended an 11-hour standoff with Okanogan County Sheriff’s deputies Friday, Nov. 13.

Dustin Cody Smith, 29, Omak, pleaded guilty Oct. 27 to forgery and second-degree possession of stolen property. The crimes occurred July 24. In a second case, Smith pleaded guilty Oct. 27 to POCS (heroin), forgery, third-degree theft and third-degree possession of stolen property. Those crimes occurred July 23 and Aug. 4. Smith was sentenced to nine months in jail and fined a total of $3,521.

Dee Dee Louise Tompkins, 28, Omak, pleaded guilty Oct. 20 to three counts of distribution of a controlled substance (one count of which was delivery to a person under 18 years of age). Tompkins was sentenced to 12 months in prison and fined $2,320.50. The crimes occurred Feb. 17, March 2 and March 12.

Kevin Eugene Ingalls, 50, Burien, pleaded guilty Oct. 8 to first-degree criminal trespassing, harassment, second-degree criminal trespassing and third-degree malicious mischief. Ingalls was sentenced to 364 days in jail with 304 days suspended, and fined $500. The crimes occurred May 25 near Tonasket.
