Chance to meet two more candidates for Oroville School Superintendent

Candidates will meet with the public Tuesday and Wednesday

OROVILLE – While two potential replacements for the outgoing superintendent for Oroville School District have been interviewed by the board and met staff and the public, a third candidate bowed out and two more have been added to the list.

Craig Dwight, who runs a Skill Center in Yakima and and Dr. Lynn Johnson, who is a teacher in Oroville and a former elementary principal, were in the first round of interviews. Next up will be Dr. Karen Ernest former superintendent of Mossyrock School District in Washington and Dr. Marilyn McBride, Superintendent of Haney County School District in Oregon. Ernest has a BA and MA from Boise State University and a Ph. D from the University of Idaho. McBride has a BA from Eastern Oregon, an MA from Western Oregon and a Ph.D from Lewis and Clark.

“At the beginning of the search for a new superintendent, we committed to examining all qualified candidates that appeared to meet our established criteria,” said Mike Egerton, chairman of the Oroville School Board.

The second round of interviews will take place on Tuesday, April 26 and Wednesday April 27, 2016. The board, staff and community will interview two candidates.

Dr. Earnest will meet with staff on Tuesday, April 26 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. and then with the board from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The public will get a chance to meet the candidate from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Oroville High School Library.

Dr. McBride will meet with staff on Wednesday, April 27 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. and then with the board from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The public will get a chance to meet the candidate from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Oroville High School Library.

“We urge you to take part in this selection process,” said Egerton. “The board will continue to examine the candidate pool until it is completely satisfied that all qualified candidates have been considered and that the person selected is a true ‘match.’ This is a very important decision.”
