Silverthorn earns honorable mention for CTL All-League Volleyball

The Caribou Trail League announced the all-league players in girls’ volleyball.

The CTL All-League Volleyball MVP was Izzy Barth (Chelan) and Libero was Amanda Van Diest (Chelan). First team was Katie McQuaid (Chelan), Hilary Parton and Ashley Wright (Cascade), Liz Rosas and Reghan Thronson (Okanogan) and Brooke Springer (Omak).

Tonasket Middle School team “Green Edge” competes in FIRST Lego League

TONASKET – Green energy is more then a campaign idea to five Tonasket students.

For them, green energy is fun, exciting – even educational.

“Green Edge,” a team from Tonasket Middle School, has spent the last month and half – or so – putting together a green robot and designing a green house for FIRST Lego League (FLL).

Council meeting draws big crowd

A standing-room-only crowd greeted Nov. 27′s city council meeting, eager to voice their opinions, whether supportive or objective, to the North Valley Hospital’s proposed expansion plans.

Though the hospital asked for a delay in the decision to vacate 2nd Street, the council still allowed public comment. The new meeting was scheduled for Jan. 22, 2008.

CTL Soccer All League chooses Keeton, Hedlund and Rillera

The Caribou Trail League announced the all-league players for girls’ soccer and Tonasket Tiger Karen Keeton at forward was named to the second team and teammates Rachel Rillera and Jessie Hedlund made honorable mention.

On the first team, goalkeeper Tara Marchand (Okanogan), defense Nadine Downey (Okanogan) Maria Guzman (Cascade), Brisieda Bravo (Chelan) and Betty Angel (Brewster). Midfield players were Kelly Downey (Okanogan), Taylor Smith (Cashmere), Kate Peer (Chelan) and Jackie McCormack (Brewster). Forwards were Corina Gebbers (Brewster), Kylie Brunner (Cashmere) and Kayla Werner (Cascade).

About 100 people came to the Sitzmark Ski Club’s benefit auction Nov. 19, where they ate, mingled and bid in both silent and live auctions to benefit the ski area.

Sitzmark benefit auction raises more than $6,000 for ski club

TONASKET – The Skitzmark Ski Club slalomed closer to the season with a benefit auction Nov. 17 at the Tonasket Eagles Club, raising more than $6,000.

About 100 people turned out for the silent auction and dinner, and more arrived later to bid during a live auction. Silent auction items ranged from a basket of potatoes, ski items and gift certificates at local spas.

CTL selects first team honors

The All-League football team for the Caribou Trail League in fall 2007 has been announced with Tonasket Quarterback Sean Timmerman on the first team for offense and linemen Timmerman and Jeff Hunlock on first team for defense. Brewster Bears Coach Eddie Ashworth was named Coach of the Year.

The first offensive team includes linemen Gabe Webster (Brewster), Juan Melendrez and Ross Rumann (Cascade), Andrew Gubsch and David Parker (Cashmere) and Cody Olsen (Chelan). Running backs were Jon Betz and Dylan Emmons (Cascade), Tanner Wood (Cashmere) and Derrick Talley (Chelan). Quarterback was Sean Timmerman (Tonasket) and Derik Todd (Cashmere). Tight end was Lucas McComas (Cascade). Wide receivers were Jasen Brown (Brewster), Trevor Davis (Cashmere) and Brett Linehan (Chelan). Kicker was Herman Hernandez (Cashmere).

Tonasket students honor veterans with special assembly

TONASKET – Local veterans turned out for the Tonasket High School Veteran’s Day Assembly Nov. 9. About a dozen veterans attended the morning event, with a packed house of middle and high school students, community members and other visitors.

Several local veterans were honored during the assembly for their service, and some chose to speak. They were later presented with roses by students.
