Community musical is slated for first two weekends in May

OMAK – The Okanogan Valley Orchestra & Chorus will bepresenting the Broadway show “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” on May 6, 7, 8,13, 14, 15 at the Omak Performing Arts Center.

This warm-hearted story “evokes a world of corn meal andmolasses, of gingham and wagon wheels and fiddles, of hearty, simple peoplewedded to the earth, all served up with warm, homespun care.” (Carl A. Rossi inThe Theatre Mirror, 2005) 

“Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” takes place in the 1850sin the Oregon wilderness. The story revolves around Adam Pontipee, a ruggedcountry man who goes to town looking for a bride to marry and to help him takecare of his six brothers. He ends up bringing back a bride, Millie. She thendesires to civilize and marry off her six rowdy brothers-in-law to ensure thesuccess of her own marriage. The brothers soon fall in love with a group ofwomen who are already spoken for. Unfortunately Adam tells his brothers to dolike the Romans did with the Sabine Women and just take the girls. Thus, thebrothers end up kidnapping the six women from a neighboring town to be theirbrides.

Leading roles are played by Doni Phillips and Ugo Bartellwith strong support from fellow brides, Carine Wood, Nicole Pearce, LauraRichards, Lynn Hoover, Madison Moe and Samantha Bartling and fellow brothers,Rolla Kyle Kennison, Doug Leese, Terry McGinness, John Durkee, Dennis Ayika andBilly Ekstrom plus a large cast of townsfolk.

Nadine Van Hees directs with a stellar staff of helpersincluding Kim Harriman as the producer; Serena Fiacco, Lydia Amaya and AmberRedman as the choreographers, Susan Graves as the costumer, Don Pearce as theconductor, Marile Kunkel helping with choral, Wills Blackmore helping with theset and sound design, Judy Johnston helping with lighting and promotion, JanythArvidson as the pianist, Cari Zachow as the stage manager and many others.
